Winners of UTA Scholarships Illustrate Faculty Efforts to Support Textbook Affordability
Winners of the Faculty Recognition Textbook Scholarship Contest have been selected from nominations submitted by UTA members. Entries were evaluated on faculty members’ efforts and impact to helping students through a commitment to affordable and used textbooks. The goal of the contest was to focus on the importance of the faculty members in the textbook process. Timely adoption and re-adoption make a significant impact on students — and the cost of textbooks. Each winning faculty member will receive a textbook scholarship of $500 from the UTA to award to students.
Congratulations to April Atkinson, Our Lady of the
Lake University
Nominated by Raju Patel, University Bookstore:
“April Atkinson is an amazing professor-she is well liked by colleagues and students. April asks the bookstore to provide as many used books as possible, even requesting we carry the old editions so her students do not have to pay $110 for the new book. She has modified her syllabus this year to adapt to a book that retails for $30 to save her students even more money. She re-adopts the same books each year and submits her orders at least a week before the due date.”
